Episodes of Regime Transformation (ERT) Dataset, Version 2.0

Here you can download all the V-Dem data free of charge!

Overview:

The ERT dataset identifies episodes of democratization (liberalizing autocracy, democratic deepening) and autocratization (democratic regression, autocratic regression) in the most recent V-Dem dataset. For further details see Lührmann and Lindberg (2019) or Wilson et al. (2020) and check the ERT codebook.

How to download and work with the ERT data:

We provide an R package to load, explore, and work with the ERT dataset here.

For non-R users we also provide the ERT dataset here as csv. file. However, we recommend loading the ERT dataset via the R package since one huge advantage of the package is that it allows to flexibly set parameters for generating the episodes.
